Viðmerking frá muslimum í Føroyum, sum formaðurin, Pateh, hevur skrivað:
Seinastu vikurnar hevur okkara samfelag havt óvæntaðar avbjóðingar eftir at ein grein hjá "Dimmalætting" varð givin út, sum nevndi teir fimm nevndarlimirnar í okkara nýskrásetta muslimska meditatiónsrúmi. Henda greinin, sum kom út beint undan jólum, hevur tíverri ført til ágang, sum er beindur móti okkum gjøgnum telefonir, sosialar miðlar, og enntá innan persónligar bólkar hjá vinum og familju. Nú høgtíðin er farin, ynskja vit at viðgera hesi viðurskifti opið og í samljóði.
Vit skrivaðu fyrstu ferð til Tórshavnar Kommunu fyri tveimum árum síðani og søktu um eitt pláss til okkara felagsskap, men einki svar kom. Tveir mánaðir seinni, sendu vit ein eftirfylgjandi teldupost, fingu enn einki svar. Av tí at skrivstovupláss vanliga verða leigað út til stovnar ella fyritøkur, gjørdist tað at skráseta seg sum meditatiónshús okkara annar møguleiki. Hetta stigið vildi givið okkum møguleika at stuðla samfelagnum og leiga okkara egna pláss, har vit kunnu savnast friðarliga.
Okkara meditatiónsrúm er einans fyri lokalar, uttan tilknýti ella samskifti við nakran uttan fyri Føroyar.
Islam er tann skjótast vaksandi átrúnaðurin í heiminum, sum milliardir taka undir við, sum søkja frið, samkenslu og felagsskap. Millum okkum her í Føroyum búgva muslimar innan okkara samfelag – grannar, vinir og medborgarar, sum stuðla ríka gobelininum í okkara samfelag. Í eini tíð, har tøknin knýtir okkum øll saman, skal fákunnan ikki longur finna fruktagóða grund. Tað er ørkymlandi at hoyra islam tosað um í niðursetandi orðum, serliga tá slík sjónarmið ofta stava frá skeivum upplýsingum ella politiskum dagsskráum heldur enn sannleika.
Okkara meditatiónsrúm verður sum øll onnur tilbiðjarar í Føroyum um tað so er protestantiskar kirkjur, katólskar kirkjur ella samkomur hjá Jehova vitnum. Ímynda tær Føroyar sum eitt hús, har hvør átrúnaður umboðar eitt annað rúm. Vit heita á almenningin um at hyggja út um yvirskriftir og politiskan retorik. Tíðindamiðlar og politikarar bera onkuntíð dagsskráir, sum ikki endurspegla tey sonnu virðini í okkara trúgv ella ætlanirnar í okkara samfelag. Vit hava ongar ætlanir um at byggja eina mosku. Vit eru eitt lítið muslimskt samfelag, sum søkir eftir einum hóvligum rúmi, har vit kunnu tæna samfelagnum gjøgnum samkenslu og tænastu. Okkara endamál er at stovna ein suppukøk til tey, sum hava tørv á tí, saman við einum stillum meditatiónsrúmi, har fólk kunnu hugleiða, biðja og fáa samband aftur við sín innara frið.
Hetta rúmið er ætlað at fremja samleika, andaligheit og kærleika millum øll menniskju, uttan mun til bakgrund ella trúgv. Við meditatión, vælgerandi tænastu og sínámillum virðing vóna vit at stuðla tí breiða samfelagnum positivt og stuðla virðum um vælvild, skil og felags menniskja.
Latið okkum gera eina framtíð, har fjølbroytni verður hátíðarhildið og óttin verður skiftur út við vitan og empati. Saman kunnu vit byggja eitt sterkari, meira sameint samfelag.

In recent weeks, our community has faced unexpected challenges following the publication of an article by "Dimamálating," which named the five board members of our newly registered Muslim meditation space. This article, released near the Christmas period, has unfortunately led to harassment directed at us through phones, social media, and even within personal circles of friends and family. Now that the holiday season has passed, we wish to address these concerns openly and with a spirit of harmony.
We first wrote to the Tórshavn Kommuna two years ago seeking a space for our community, but there was no response. Two months later, we sent a follow up email, still received no reply. Because office spaces are typically rented out to organizations or companies, registering as a meditation house became our second option. This step would allow us to contribute to the community and rent our own space where we can gather peacefully.
Our meditation space is exclusively for locals, with no affiliation or interaction with anyone outside of the Faroe Islands.
Islam is the fastest growing religion in the world, embraced by billions who seek peace, compassion, and community. Among us here in the Faroe Islands, there are Muslims living within our community—neighbors, friends, and fellow citizens who contribute to the rich tapestry of our society. In an era where technology connects us all, ignorance should no longer find fertile ground. It is disheartening to hear Islam spoken of in derogatory terms, especially when such views often arise from misinformation or political agendas rather than truth.
Our meditation space will be like any other place of worship in the Faroe Islands whether Protestant churches, Catholic parishes, or Jehovah’s Witness congregations. Imagine the Faroe Islands as a house, where each religion represents a different room. In our rooms, we nourish our souls just as we nourish our bodies. But when we gather in the living room or step into the yard, we are one family, united by shared respect and community. This is the spirit we wish to foster, a home where diversity enriches our collective life rather than divides it. “A house divided against itself cannot stand” comes from Jesus’s teachings in the Gospels, appearing in Matthew 12:25, Mark 3:25, and Luke 11:17.
We urge the public to look beyond headlines and political rhetoric. News outlets and politicians sometimes carry agendas that do not reflect the true values of our faith or the intentions of our community. We do not have any intention to build a mosque. We are a small Muslim community seeking a modest space where we can serve society through compassion and service. Our aim is to establish a soup kitchen for those in need, alongside a quiet meditation space where people can reflect, pray, and reconnect with their inner peace.
This space is intended to foster harmony, spirituality, and love among all people, regardless of background or belief. Through meditation, charitable service, and mutual respect, we hope to contribute positively to the wider community and promote values of kindness, understanding, and shared humanity.
Let us make a future where diversity is celebrated and fear is replaced by knowledge and empathy. Together, we can build a stronger, more united community.
